In this collection of images I will show some important items from around my home that have inspired me texturally, conceptually or in tones. I live in a house that is quite old and there are numerous interesting objects around that lend themselves well to photographing. I hope through this gallery of Photo’s you find some inspiration as I have from living in such a quirky city as Winnipeg, Manitoba

Image #1 Miniature City

My dad collects miniature metal buildings and his collection is extensive. They sit together on a glass shelf with other miniature objects. At night these buildings all together become kind of an interesting little city on their own and can take on a monumental appearance when photographed at certain angles. Some of my favourites ore the CN Tower and the Empire State Building. They sit on a glass shelf that almost appears to bend under the weight of this city. The whole thing has always appeared very precarious to me but over the course of my life it has survived so I guess it is pretty sturdy.

Image #2 Pepper Rooster

This image is of a glass rooster that was gifted to us in Mexico. It is filled with pickled peppers and has never been opened. The rich colors and shape of the rooster have always been appealing to me especially in the way it absorbs and reflects light.

Image #3 Mexican Gunslinger

Our family has acquired an interesting collection of items over the years. In Mexico there is a tribe of indigenous people who do interesting art with tiny beads. They cover all kinds of objects with these beads. My dad once gave them some toy plastic guns to make into beaded objects and they did. The result was very cool. They now rest on a shelf in our living room.

Image 4 Paris

This is an image of one of the Eiffel Towers we have on the mantle in my living room. I thought the background created some cool bokeh through the woven basket that I made as a kid. I really love the depth of field in this image.

Image #5 Tropics

This is an image of one of the tropical looking plants in my living room. I brought out some purple in the highlights to give it a cool feel. I really enjoy the green and purple together, even though it is an odd combination. This plant reminds me of the foliage around our house in Mexico that I love.

Image #6 Posters

Throughout the last 10 years I have purchased every skateboarding magazine I have ever come across and currently have an insane collection. In my room behind all my records is a wall of all the pages of the magazines I found notable or appealing. This collection of cut outs takes up a large section of the wall and is one of my favourite aspects of my room.

Image #7 Knick Knack

In the upstairs office in my house there is this wonderful shelf that my dad has where he has collected many vintage and fascinating objects. I’ve always wanted to have a knick-knack shelf but also contradict myself and hate clutter. Pictured here on the far right and left are some creamers from the late 40’s. beside the creamer on the left is a Mexican styled sculpture of baby Jesus next to a skeleton couple getting married.

Image #8 Floating Snake

This is an interesting rendition of a Mayan snake that was carved out of a natural tree branch and is suspended from the ceiling in our living room. It makes an interesting conversation piece when it is hanging over your head.

Image #9 Turntable

I’ve always wanted to do a typical stylus turntable shot, so I thought id take the opportunity. I’ve wanted to purchase a new turntable for some time, but the only ones I want I cannot afford, because any decent ones are in the $300.00 range but the record playing the photo is a Gucci Mane record called “Everybody Looking”. I find pleasure in purchasing vinyl albums that you wouldn’t normally think to acquire in that format such as Metalica, Deathgrips and any sort of new rap.

Image #10 Stereo

This is one of my favourite images from the evening I spent taking these photographs. I’ve always been fascinated with vintage music related electronics with all the manual details and complicated set ups. It sparks a little excitement in me every time I see it light up. This is my stereo that was passed down from my parents and the cassette player that my friends father who repairs electronics gave to me when he heard I was in need of one.

I hope that through viewing this gallery of images that you will learn to appreciate and cherish the little things around your home that become apart of your existence. These little things that we see every day, in a way, contribute to who we are and every once in a while we should take notice of them, and celebrate them by photographing them. I hope you will be inspired by my collection.
